The Songstress + The Perfectionist

I recently had the pleasure of attending an Anita Baker concert, in my hometown of Baltimore, MD. I must admit, I was both excited and apprehensive about the experience. I was excited to see a legendary artist perform live but apprehensive due to her reputation as a "diva” and all that it would bring to the experience. However, my concerns were quickly put to rest as I witnessed the meticulous management of the event both front of the house and back. Our seats gave us a prime view of both areas, and it was clear that everything was being handled professionally and with great attention to detail. It was apparent that Anita Baker was determined to give her fans a top-notch performance.

What impressed me most was Anita's diligence in getting the sound quality right for the show. She was relentless.  At one point, I thought she should just let the issue rest, but she persisted. Even after one sound engineer walked out in the middle of the show, she did not give up.  When a new engineer appeared 15 minutes later, he got the sound right, and it was absolute perfection. Her dedication to putting on a quality show was evident throughout the entire night.

As an interior designer, I draw many similarities to my own work. I strive to give my clients a quality product and nothing less. Like Anita’s dedication to her craft, I put in the extra effort to ensure we take great care with our client projects. I understand the importance of advocating for the good of the craft and the relentless pursuit of excellence. I believe this level of diligence sets apart genuinely exceptional work from the mediocre. In both the world of music and interior design, attention to detail and a commitment to quality are what set apart the legends from the rest.

My experience at the Anita Baker concert was not only memorable but also reminded me of the importance of diligence and attention to detail in everything we do. Whether it's performing on stage or designing a home, it's the little things that make all the difference.
