KENNETT SQUARE, PA

Nestled in the heart of Kennett Square, this early NJID project took an unfinished basement and reimagined it into a stylish and functional lower-level family retreat for a busy household with three young children. Our clients, like so many we work with, juggle demanding careers with raising a family. They wanted a space that looked great but could handle real life: snacks, spills, sleepovers, and all. We layered durable, easy-to-maintain materials with soft neutrals and warm textures to create an environment that was as sophisticated as it was family-friendly. The sectional seating was plush and roomy, the finishes resilient yet refined, and the flow of the room encouraged togetherness without sacrificing style.

We designed a media lounge with smart storage for games and gadgets. A game area centered around a statement-making air hockey table. A snack bar/homework zone complete with open shelving and built-ins. And a flexible layout perfect for movie nights, birthday parties, or downtime after school.

This project laid the groundwork for the NJID approach: chic, layered, functional, and deeply personal. Even years later, it serves as a reminder that design isn’t just about creating beautiful spaces; it’s about building environments where life unfolds beautifully.

Take a look through the gallery below to see how NJID's signature style began to take shape. These images have been thoughtfully reimagined using AI to better reflect the design intent, as the original photography did not meet our current visual standards.
